Del Dotto Piazza

CAAAAAVE TOURS!!!! We have a lot to say about Del Dotto, but this post would get really long, really fast (especially with the number of times we’ve been). So, we’ll just that the Del Dotto Piazza is like the Vegas of Napa in ALL THE RIGHT WAYS.

Your “line-up” takes you through an impressive array of barrel tastings (all futures) that just makes you keep wanting more. And, in true Vegas-esque style, the entire cave is filled with imported Italian marble, reconstructed ancient statues from Italy and frescos everywhere - fun! Most tasting experiences at the Piazza end with some sort of delicious food pairing - stretching from wood fired pizza to a multi-course food and wine pairing, which is an absolute necessity after the amount of wine imbibed in the caves. That said, we wouldn’t recommend trying to fit in too many (or any) other wineries before or after this experience.

We parted with a mix of futures and current releases. We gotta say, our favorite is the Super Tuscan (Giovanni’s Tuscan Reserve). Granted, it was a future, but man was that sucker already pouring nicely. So much pepper and fruit with great acid and long, lingering finish. People say to pair this with food, but honestly, we think it can be had by itself too!
