Phillips Hill Winery

You can find the tasting room for Phillips Hill near the end of Anderson Valley in an old apple farm building. Remnants of its apple orchard past are found all over the winery grounds, but rest assured, there’s plenty of wine available now.

The team at Phillips Hill always has an interesting line-up of various whites and, of course, phenomenal Pinot Noir (plus usually another fun red varietal too):

We walked away with a lot of Phillips Hill wine, but the one that stood out the most on this particular trip was the 2019 Gruner Veltliner. I know what you’re thinking: come to Anderson Valley and feature something other than Pinot!? Yup, we are going there. And trust us, it’s a huge personal challenge for us to keep a bottle of Phillips Hill Pinot on the rack long enough to last us through our next Anderson Valley trip.

The proprietor, Natacha, noted they are the first winery in Anderson Valley to make a wine using Gruner Veltliner - it was exceptional. The nose was grassy and even bell-peppery. We tasted dry, non-sugary green apple and could enjoy it by itself or with food.
