Bluemont Vineyard

I (E) took a trip back east in July to visit all of the loved ones I haven’t seen in quite awhile. Having lived in Washington DC prior to moving out to California nine years ago, I was excited to see old friends and visit my old haunts. I was NOT prepared for the humidity (yes, I’ve grown quite soft)!

I didn’t know much about wine when I lived in DC, but I attended the annual Virginia Wine Festival a couple times, and even volunteered to pour wine one year. I fell in love with Cab Franc after attending those festivals, a passion which continues to this day! It had been almost a decade since I tried Virginia wine, so I was excited when my friends suggested we spend an afternoon at a winery. So off we went, beyond the Beltway and then some, to visit Bluemont Vineyard in the tiny village of Bluemont, Virginia.

The vineyard was located at the top of a vine studded Blue Ridge Mountain foothill, with a panoramic view of the Virginia Piedmont.

Bluemont offers flights, wine by the glass and bottle. My friends and I shared the two flights that were offered so we could sample their impressive array of reds and whites. Their charcuterie board included some legit Hungarian-esque sausage, according to our Hungarian friend who was there and knows about such things! Most notable were their Farm Table blends and the Cab Franc reminded me why I initially fell in love with that varietal.
